Mystery is one of the most popular genres in literature and television. A great “whodunnit” is captivating to many.
Have you ever thought of your own life as a mystery? The Who and the Why.
Who are you really?
Why are you here in this moment?
Why did you have the childhood you had?
Why did that bad thing just happen to you?
I have always used the tool of writing to figure myself out. I see now that my journal is my detective’s notebook. I guess that’s why it’s the soapbox I shout from-writing gives me answers.
Write down your clues: dreams, odd moments that you can’t explain, things that trigger you, things that help you relax, people you are drawn to, art that penetrates your heart, memories that make you well up with tears in a split second.
Notice the patterns. Good detectives see patterns and draw conclusions from evidence and intuition.
The Gut Feeling
Knowing is self trust. It takes a lot of decades to develop self trust. At least that was my experience. It’s still a work in progress but I no longer blindly believe others storylines are the right paths for me.
But watch out if you think you have it all figured out. Because the Mystery of Life is the ultimate game. In any great whodunnit comes the Reversal. We discover everything we thought was right, wasn’t…
I will be happy when I move away, make more money, get married, build a business…then you get it and something blows it up-an illness, death of a loved one, your house falls into the sea…
You hit MIDLIFE and everything looks different because you are different. And it’s not that the younger you was less than, just a different consciousness. And as we age we can only hope to expand our consciousness and see things from a higher, more dynamic vantage point.
This is where compassion for self comes in. We can berate ourselves for the actions of our younger days or we can see that we acted from a limited notebook. And now, we live our lives with more wisdom only gained with experience. Pain has relevance. Joy matters more. Hopefully Love is the frequency we live from.
The Case is never closed on the Great Mystery. We will never have all the answers and that’s part of the fun. There is always a deeper level to go.
